HELP US TO SPREAD OUR
LOVE AND FAITH

As we renew our mission as a diocese and parish to transform lives and communities in the name of Jesus Christ, this necessarily entails that significant move from simply maintaining things that are familiar (to some at least) to reaching out with the good news of the gospel in ways that are creative and relevant, - and not just in words, but through lives in which God is making a difference!

May we be encouraged that God, by his grace, continuously works amongst and through his people here, as we seek to deepen our relationship with him we renew our mission as a diocese and parish to transform lives and communities in the name of Jesus Christ, this necessarily entails that significant move from simply maintaining things that are familiar (to some at least) to reaching out with the good news of the gospel in ways that are creative and relevant, - and not just in words, but through lives in which God is making a difference!

Ordination Celebration at Brecon Cathedral

For the second year, the usual grandieur of Ordination services in the Anglican church had to be tempered in the light of Covid restrictions. Having first met Sarah a decade ago as a Hospital Chaplaincy Volunteer, then an Elim ministry trainee, following her marriage to Jeremy, here in St.Hilary’s, I got to know Sarah well. I know something of the twists and turns that finding her way to Ordination has taken her. It was a great privilege to be sat in Brecon Cathedral to witness her Ordination to the ministry of Deacon. Hopefully next year, Covid will be behind us, and we can all be there to witness her Priesting.

The service was quiet, in comparison with the norm, but was very humbly led by Bishop (former Archbishop) Barry Morgan, there being no Diocesan Bishop currently. In his address, Bishop Barry spoke of how we cannot serve, until we receive service ourselves. This is so important, we need to make ourselves vulnerable, to ministry to those who are vulnerable. In the picture, you will see Revd. Sarah Harris on the left, Sarah will serve in the Ministry Area of Central Swansea. In the centre is Revd. Carol Jones who will serve in the Ministry Area of Irfon, Wye and Edw. To their right is Revd. Anna Bessant, who will serve the Ministry Area of Brecon.

This is a significant stage in both Sarah and Jeremy’s lives together. Sarah, getting used to the public ministry of the sacred order of ministry – and the wearing of the clerical collar and various robes (unlike in Elim, from where her spiritual journey started). Both of them will need to prepare to move from their home in Cwmrhydyceirw in Morriston to the Maritime Quarter and into church accommodation. I took all our thoughts, prayers and best wishes with me on Sunday. We wish them well for their future ministries together.
